Father’s Day Gift Guide

In the past, we’ve explored the gift ideas that appeal to all kinds of dads, ones who dress up, enjoy fine wine or scotch, travel, and splurge on grooming products. This year, we’re giving our ideas for the other 2/3s of dads out there – the guys who prefer to be in the yard, get the guys over and BBQ. Don’t be confused, these are still Style Dads but these guys are more comfortable in the yard than they are at a martini bar.

Here are clips from our recent press tour, below are details on where you can find these great items for your dad.

Breath, stretch, style with #Gapfit yoga

A huge thanks to our friends at the GAP for inviting us to a special Calgary blogger yoga morning session this week. We’re always on the lookout for new gym and yoga clothes that combine fashion and function and the GAP has done it.

We love the selection of colours, bold patters and – dare we say it – we are now embracing the men’s fitness tights trend that is taking over gyms by storm. Great for yoga, running or even just getting yourself to the gym in the cold, these men’s leggings are really comfortable and look great under a simple pair of black shorts.

Check out the online store for more and follow @CamLeeYoga on instagram and twitter.

Style Resolutions for 2016

Happy New Year!

Made any new year’s resolutions? Sure, we all have good intentions in January but they drop off fast and furious. We were asked, what are top three style resolutions that you can recommend? A great question! Here are a few we think you can incorporate easily, painlessly and maybe even stick to.

    1. Only wear what fits you. Purge your closet and take out those clothes that don’t fit well or aren’t flattering on you. If you’re not ready to part with them because your other resolution is lose 10 lbs, fine, but put them in a box and put them away. Looking at a closet full of unflattering clothes is a terrible way to start the day.
    2. Dress for yourself. Sure, we all have responsibilities and need to dress the part but don’t let anyone tell you not to wear something if you love it (ahem, except Crocs, yoga pants in public or cargo shorts). It’s your body, your day, and life is short!
    3. Try on one new thing. Afraid of prints? Always wanted a leather jacket? This is your year, just do it. Go get that one thing that you have always thought you should have but you’ve been holding yourself back from. You might be surprised by how you feel, who you meet and where 2016 takes you.

Whatever your goals, we wish you all a colourful and joyous year.

Dorm Rooms Do’s

It’s back to school time and for those of you that are heading to post secondary or somewhere abroad, you will most likely be staying in a dorm. Now most dorms come with a bed, night stand and that is pretty much it. Now, remember you will be spending a lot of time (studying of course) in these spaces, so make sure you are adding some personality to these spaces. How do you do this, you ask? Well, we are here to help. Check out the video below and our list of Do’s to make your dorm room have some major swag!

  1. Pattern and Texture – You can introduce pattern and texture through your bedding, window coverings, and artwork. Think bold and bright colour and have fun with your patterns. Mix and match and create a unique look thats all your own.
  2. Organization is Key – baskets, storage pieces, dual duty furniture is what you need to ensure you are organized through out the year. Have a space for everything so you don’t have everything all over your room. You don’t have to be scrambling in  the morning to find your books, shoes, or laptop.
  3. Don’t forget about lighting – Lighting is key. One centre light fixture in your room will not do. Think about table lamps and floor lamps for accent lighting. Trust us, it will help when you are up late cramming for that exam that you forgot you had!

Check out these amazing finds from Homesense!

This Month’s New Celebrity Collections

You just never know who will design a collection (or collaborate) next. This week, we learned about three new collections by some of the biggest celebrities of the moment. Does this make us want to buy them though? We’ll see how the collections turn out when they are released later this year.

1. “ED” by Ellen DeGeneres – www.EDbyEllen.com (coming soon)

EllenD

Expected in mid-June, Ellen has created a new collection consisting of womenswear pieces raining from $45 to $400. “This is nothing new to say, but I don’t think you should sacrifice style for comfort. Everything about ED is casual and yet it’s chic.” Inspired by her love of tailored fashion, the word “LOVE” its stitched into all jackets.

According to an interview in Womenswear Daily, she wants to make this the biggest brand in the world and jump into a wide range of categories including menswear, socks, bedding, eyewear, candles and beyond.

2. “REBEL FOR TORRID” by Rebel Wilson – www.torrid.com

RebelW

Torrid is America’s fastest growing plus-size fashion brand and they have now teamed up with Pitch Perfect star Rebel Wilson. A limited edition collection (25 pieces from $28.50-$125.00), it will feature holiday wear and be available in November.

She was selected by the brand for being a fan of sexy, edgy fashion. Rebel explains, “I’ve always had a ‘torrid’ affair with buying clothes my whole life.”

3. Kim Kardashian for retail chain C & A – www.c-and-a.com

KimK

In Sao Paulo, Brazil this week, Kim K announced that she had teamed up with retailer C & A to create a line that she calls “Simple and Sexy.” She also acknowledged that Brazil is a country where women’s curves are celebrated, to it was the perfect fit. The collection includes knee-lenth skirts, dresses, sandals and crop tops and prices range between $9 and $65 in C&A stores across Brazil.

Emoji Fashion #OMG

Google recently launched its spring fashion trends report and found that the top most-searched pant style is the emoji jogging pants. In fact, there was a nearly 60,000% increase in searches in the last year. No doubt emojis are everywhere, and they just go to show that a picture is worth a thousand words… in this case a picture is worth a thousand characters?

Here are some of our favourite emoji fashions that you can buy online today!

Nobody is going to screw with you when you wear the $62 “Killa emoji joggers” from 7twentyfour.com. Peace signs, guns, money, fists and cigarettes, yo.

EmojiSweats

Steaming-hot emoji ‘poo’ high-tops from Betbrand ($88). Just be careful not to step in anything.

Poo_shoes

Nothing say love like a 14K gold emoji pendant from Jane Basch Designs ($312.50). Too bad that Valentine’s Day is so far away!

Spring Trends from Bella 2015

Arguably, it was the biggest fashion show to take place in Calgary’s history. There were two floors, dozens of models, hundreds of guests, and fashion valued at more than our house. In a word, stunning.

We were honoured to have been asked to host the Magenta Carpet last night and in a couple weeks you’ll be able see all the action on Shaw TV. Mr. Turk was kind enough to dress “The Style Guys” last night but all eyes were on the Spring fashions when the music started.

Here are a few of the trends that Holt Renfrew presented, all in the name of raising money (over $500,000!) for the Calgary Health Trust and the Neonatal Care Unit at the Foothills Hospital.
