Style Guys Fall Press Tour 2016

Fall really is like the new year, and if you’re like us, it’s the time of year when you’re ready to get into new routines, set new goals and UP YOUR GAME! Whether it’s your home decor, grooming, fashion, or even your intellectual game, we have ides on how to finish off 2016 in style.

We visited four cities this Fall: Edmonton, Vancouver, Calgary and Ottawa to show off items from our friends at HomeSense, Philips, Kobo, and Dockers.

  1. HomeSense – this year, HomeSense launched their Privé event, giving shoppers the chance to discover a new line of small electrical appliances, all perfectly priced (of course). From express machines to toasters to robot vacuums, they’ve got you covered. Event runs September 15 – 21 in select HomeSense locations across Canada.HomeSensePrive
  2. Philips – the authority in shaving, Philips launched the OneBlade this year to compliment their stellar collection of razors and trimmers. We featured a few of their products, including the Bodygroom Plus – a great tool for all areas below the neck (our media hosts LOVED this product).
  3. Kobo Aura ONE – delivering the best reading experience on the market today, the new Aura ONE features the largest screen in the category, front light technology, is water-safe, and can hold up to 6,000 books. It can also connect wirelessly to your local public library.AuraONE
  4. Dockers – The original casual Friday pant, Dockers recently celebrated their 30th anniversary. Continually upping their game, they launched a new collection of pants in a new Stretch Performance Fabric, so you never have to worry about saggy jean bum again. The Alpha Khaki was a big hit across the country, featuring a wider thigh for those guys who have large quads but still like a narrow fit.

Happy Fall, Style Guys!

Dorm Rooms Do’s

It’s back to school time and for those of you that are heading to post secondary or somewhere abroad, you will most likely be staying in a dorm. Now most dorms come with a bed, night stand and that is pretty much it. Now, remember you will be spending a lot of time (studying of course) in these spaces, so make sure you are adding some personality to these spaces. How do you do this, you ask? Well, we are here to help. Check out the video below and our list of Do’s to make your dorm room have some major swag!

  1. Pattern and Texture – You can introduce pattern and texture through your bedding, window coverings, and artwork. Think bold and bright colour and have fun with your patterns. Mix and match and create a unique look thats all your own.
  2. Organization is Key – baskets, storage pieces, dual duty furniture is what you need to ensure you are organized through out the year. Have a space for everything so you don’t have everything all over your room. You don’t have to be scrambling in  the morning to find your books, shoes, or laptop.
  3. Don’t forget about lighting – Lighting is key. One centre light fixture in your room will not do. Think about table lamps and floor lamps for accent lighting. Trust us, it will help when you are up late cramming for that exam that you forgot you had!

Check out these amazing finds from Homesense!

Taking it to the Streets

It’s been four years since Calgary welcomed mobile food trucks to the city and now we’re looking ahead to mobile retail. We say, this will be a great addition to Calgary this summer (providing the City of Calgary can get on with it). Here are a look at our first three retail trucks coming to the #YYC.

Mobile truck owners are anxious to hit the streets, and who knows, maybe even come do a private party for you?

Sublime Mobile Couture

A moderate to high end fashion destination, this truck has the feeling of a walk-in closet. Ladies only, they carry local and international brands complete with casual wear, jewelry, blazers and even handbags.

Beatnik Bus

The Beatnik Bus is a mobile vinyl and local art shop. No doubt this one will be at all the festivals this summer.

Crafted Artisan Truck

Featuring unique, handmade goods from across Canada you’ll fine a mix of everything from the Crafted Artisan Truck including mens, women and children’s clothing, accessories, paper goods and even home decor like candles and ceramics. Pharrell-What We Can All Learn from Him

This week, the Council of Fashion Designers (CFDA) named Pharrell Williams as the 2015 Fashion Icon. A pretty major honour, past winners have included Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Sarah Jessica Parker, Nicole Kidman and Kate Moss.

So, what makes Pharrell a fashion icon? And what can we learn from him?

1. Pharrell has collaborated on many collections, including with Uniqlo, Adidas, G-Star Raw and Moncler Lunettes. This tells us that fashion doesn’t have to cost a fortune and that it’s all about the mix. Pair your street clothes with your expensive shades, your high and your low. It all works out.

2. Pharrell takes risks. The hat, the short suit and the pearls for example, who else wears these things? Well, you may not want to go that far but he does teach us that taking risks is important.

3. He tries a lot of different things. You may see Pharrell wearing a tailored tux one day, sneakers and adidas jacket the next – he’s not a man who can only pull off one look and likes variety. So, don’t be afraid to pull out something out of the norm once in a while!

Dressing for the Office Holiday Party

ChristmasDressIf you haven’t been to one already, you might be gearing up for an office holiday party and the pressure is on. There’s a lot to think about when it comes to choosing the right outfit… on the one hand you want to dress up but you don’t want to overdress, so where’s the happy medium? Here are a few tips on how to make just the right statement:

1. Know your venue.
If the holiday party is in your office lunchroom or the kind of venue with peanut shells on the floor, don’t worry about dressing formally. Think smart casual – no ball gowns or suits required. If it’s at a luxury hotel ballroom or a fine dining restaurant then up your game – a suit or dress.

2. Be professional.
These are still your work colleagues and employers, so don’t overdo it on the cleavage, slits, open shirts or tight pants. Think fun, dressy and mostly covered up. If your boss can’t look you in the eye without staring at your rack hanging out of your top, Houston we have a problem.

3. Don’t overdo it.
Having worked in the service industry we can tell you that there is a fine line between getting dressed to impress and overdoing it. Ladies, there’s no need to get the works: your hair done, makeup done, nails done, eyebrows done, lashes done, and looking over processed. Sure go get a blow out and some new lipstick but this is not your wedding day.

4. Be comfortable.
The last thing you want is to wear something so tight that you can’t sit down for a long time or eat dessert. You may also want to dance so wear shoes that will get you through the night.

5. Wear something that you don’t already wear to work.
It’s the holidays, you’re still allowed to have a little fun! Bring out some nice accessories, wear some sparkle, guys-wear a suit, we don’t all have lots of events where we can dress to impress.

Giving Thanks

It’s not often we get one bit serious on Virgin Radio but this week we want to talk about just a few of the reasons why we are truly thankful.

1. Food in our bellies and a soon to be finished kitchen. It’s been four long months since we had a flood in our house and this week we’ll be able to cook in our home again. It’s a miracle that we have not doubled in size.

2. Careers that we love. What other country could we be two young dudes owning our own businesses AND having fun as the Style Guys.

3. Our health. This is a no-brainer. And we’re going to give some of the credit to having an Anytime Fitness a few blocks from our house… complete with trainer Brad.

4. We have the most loving and supportive families and friends. We’re so grateful that they are understanding that we can’t always be at everything but they have to know that we have nothing but love! This includes our friends at Virgin Radio – Marc, Danaye, Fuzzy and Boss Chad who keep having us back, and to the listeners that put up with us every Friday.

5. Each other. And we hope that you all have big crushes too.

Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!
