Dorm Rooms Do’s

It’s back to school time and for those of you that are heading to post secondary or somewhere abroad, you will most likely be staying in a dorm. Now most dorms come with a bed, night stand and that is pretty much it. Now, remember you will be spending a lot of time (studying of course) in these spaces, so make sure you are adding some personality to these spaces. How do you do this, you ask? Well, we are here to help. Check out the video below and our list of Do’s to make your dorm room have some major swag!

  1. Pattern and Texture – You can introduce pattern and texture through your bedding, window coverings, and artwork. Think bold and bright colour and have fun with your patterns. Mix and match and create a unique look thats all your own.
  2. Organization is Key – baskets, storage pieces, dual duty furniture is what you need to ensure you are organized through out the year. Have a space for everything so you don’t have everything all over your room. You don’t have to be scrambling in  the morning to find your books, shoes, or laptop.
  3. Don’t forget about lighting – Lighting is key. One centre light fixture in your room will not do. Think about table lamps and floor lamps for accent lighting. Trust us, it will help when you are up late cramming for that exam that you forgot you had!

Check out these amazing finds from Homesense!

Packwood Grand Style

What to wear? One of Calgary’s hottest fashion events of the year (and not just because the forecast is calling for 30+ degree temperatures) is upon us and we’re having a hard time deciding what to wear. In case you missed our segment today on CTV Morning Live here are  a few of our ideas.

Don’t forget that we will be there judging for best outfits – one for the ladies, one for the fellas – and the winners will each get a $1000 gift card to CrossIron Mills. See you at the races!

PARK 2015: Promoting Artists, Redfining Kulture

In its 3rd season, this years PARK Show is sure to be an amazing one! Being held Saturday May 23, 2105, this show has not disappointed in previous years as being one of the premiere fashion events to go to in the city. Fashion alumni as well as new to the fashion scene designers will showcase their collections in a two part fashion show. There is nothing more thrilling than sitting at a show, when the light turn down, the music starts and the models start strutting their stuff on the runway. It’s exhilarating. This is how we get a little NYC feel in YYC.
TICKETS AVAILABLE ONLINE.

We thought we would run through some of the designers that we cannot wait to see on the runway!
Designer Aleem Arif founded this brand in 2011. The leather extraordinare, Aleem has a knack for making well tailored and fashion forward jackets and blazers. We are loving the lazer cut details that he is showcasing in his now collection. Perfect for those Calgary summer nights were it can get a little chilly. We are also loving the asymmetrical lines in some of his designs, we like to call this Modern Micheal, as in Jackson if you’re nasty… wait a minute, that’s Janet!
If there is one thing we love, it’s a strong pattern and this is the directions behind Vivian Lee’s new collection called RISE. A contemporary athletic-leisure menswear collection marries technical design and function with simple, clean aesthetics. Made for the modern jet setting man, who is athletic, career oriented, and fashionably sensitive… I think that describes us to a T!

Graduating from design in School in London, England, we are loving the simple aesthetic of her designs. Going through her collection we love how easy, casual, and well made her pieces are. We love how each of her pieces can be a staple but also go with so many other items, giving that piece longevity in your wardrobe. Something that is very important.

Let’s Hear it for the Mums!

She birthed you, bathed you and baked for you, so when Mother’s Day comes around we’re on the look out for the best gifts for your mama. Sure, perfume, flowers, breakfast, they’re all great gifts but this year we’re challenging you to think outside the box and come up with something that will really outdo your siblings (and isn’t this really the fun part?).

1. Handmade Items (but handmade by someone else). We’re big lovers of ETSY, and we especially love these pillows by Urban Tree Artistry ($34).

2. Cleaning lady (or man) for a day. Mom’s, you’re welcome for recommending this one, we know you want to come home to a nice clean house.

We say, this will be a great addition to Calgary this summer (providing the City of Calgary can get on with it). Here are a look at our first three retail trucks coming to the #YYC.

Brunch: The Most Important Meal of the Week

Bow ties at brunch - a must.

Bow ties at brunch – a must.

Over the last couple of weeks we have been invited to some incredible brunches. The lengths people are going to on Sunday mornings these days is kind of amazing – breakfast items, lunch items, desserts and big helping of style – it makes us think that brunching is the new dinner party.

So, how does one throw a brunch that your friends will get out of bed for? Here are our tips.

And we have to make a special mention of Ania B and Stalman for sharing their stunning photos and Katie Marks (Toques and Truffles) for her stellar cooking and hosting skills at #SuperBlogSunday.

1. Make a variety of food, and lots of it. You don’t have to serve bacon and eggs – but it helps. Brunching means no rules. Make a roast beef, a salad, lasagna, whatever. As long as you have options and an egg dish you’re safe. And don’t forget something sweet.

Waffles, granola and cake, OH MY!

2. Day drinking. Make a feature cocktail (or two) with a non-alcoholic for the pregnant women attending and driving everyone home.

Feature drinks with edible flowers, come on!

3. Dress UP. It’s fun to dress up on a Sunday morning and not have to go to church. Invite your most stylish friends and make an event of it. You can go big – bow ties, hats, fascinators, pretty dresses. Go for it.

Get your most stylish friends - no jammies allowed.

4. Theme it. The last one we attended was themed #SuperBlogSunday and hosted some of Calgary’s top fashion bloggers. At the event people were printing their photos wirelessly using an Instax. It’s fun to have an activity, so make it your own and get people involved.
