Style Guys Fall Press Tour 2016

Fall really is like the new year, and if you’re like us, it’s the time of year when you’re ready to get into new routines, set new goals and UP YOUR GAME! Whether it’s your home decor, grooming, fashion, or even your intellectual game, we have ides on how to finish off 2016 in style.

We visited four cities this Fall: Edmonton, Vancouver, Calgary and Ottawa to show off items from our friends at HomeSense, Philips, Kobo, and Dockers.

  1. HomeSense – this year, HomeSense launched their Privé event, giving shoppers the chance to discover a new line of small electrical appliances, all perfectly priced (of course). From express machines to toasters to robot vacuums, they’ve got you covered. Event runs September 15 – 21 in select HomeSense locations across Canada.HomeSensePrive
  2. Philips – the authority in shaving, Philips launched the OneBlade this year to compliment their stellar collection of razors and trimmers. We featured a few of their products, including the Bodygroom Plus – a great tool for all areas below the neck (our media hosts LOVED this product).
  3. Kobo Aura ONE – delivering the best reading experience on the market today, the new Aura ONE features the largest screen in the category, front light technology, is water-safe, and can hold up to 6,000 books. It can also connect wirelessly to your local public library.AuraONE
  4. Dockers – The original casual Friday pant, Dockers recently celebrated their 30th anniversary. Continually upping their game, they launched a new collection of pants in a new Stretch Performance Fabric, so you never have to worry about saggy jean bum again. The Alpha Khaki was a big hit across the country, featuring a wider thigh for those guys who have large quads but still like a narrow fit.

Happy Fall, Style Guys!

Pharrell-What We Can All Learn from Him

This week, the Council of Fashion Designers (CFDA) named Pharrell Williams as the 2015 Fashion Icon. A pretty major honour, past winners have included Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Sarah Jessica Parker, Nicole Kidman and Kate Moss.

So, what makes Pharrell a fashion icon? And what can we learn from him?

1. Pharrell has collaborated on many collections, including with Uniqlo, Adidas, G-Star Raw and Moncler Lunettes. This tells us that fashion doesn’t have to cost a fortune and that it’s all about the mix. Pair your street clothes with your expensive shades, your high and your low. It all works out.

2. Pharrell takes risks. The hat, the short suit and the pearls for example, who else wears these things? Well, you may not want to go that far but he does teach us that taking risks is important.

3. He tries a lot of different things. You may see Pharrell wearing a tailored tux one day, sneakers and adidas jacket the next – he’s not a man who can only pull off one look and likes variety. So, don’t be afraid to pull out something out of the norm once in a while!

New Year’s Gym Etiquette

Health and fitness concept. Before and after weight loss by

Of course the gym is packed, it’s January. There’s nothing else to do and everyone has been washing down their shortbread with eggnog for the last month. We’re in the same boat, too much eating, drinking, lazing, snacking and sipping. But the show goes on, it’s a new year, and another opportunity to evaluate our fitness goals.

This week on the Virgin Morning Show we’re talking about gym etiquette. For the most part, we find that people at the gym are pretty friendly (maybe we just go to an exceptionally great gym) but there is always room for improvement on the little stuff. Here are our suggestion on how to exercise your brain, in addition to your brawn.

1. Be Welcoming to the new people (or January bandwagon folk) – sure, a busier gym is annoying but don’t stink eye the newbies. It’s hard enough to get to the gym without being made to feel like a loser.

2. Cut the chit-chat (or at lease keep it to yourselves) – whether you’re on the phone or next to your BFF, we don’t need to hear about every detail of your life.

3. Carry a towel – leaving your sweat anywhere is gross.

4. Don’t hog the water fountain by filling up your Big Gulp-sized water bottle. I just want a sip, I promise I’ll be quick!

5. Wear underwear – guys, you know those lightweight workout shorts you wear, put some ginch under them. There’s no need to be flopping around like a freshly caught trout (or goldfish, whatever the case may be) for all to see. It’s weird.

And remember, KEEP FIT AND HAVE FUN!

Love, the Style Guys.

Nordstrom opening gala

Screen Shot 2014-09-18 at 8.34.42 PM

Last night, we had the great privilege of being invited to the opening gala of Nordstrom’s first location in Canada. The night was filled with fantastic eats, cocktails (no red wine, of course!), an R&B band that rivalled Bruno Mars and let’s not forget fashion to make you giddy. The streamlined and modern aesthetic of the store was the perfect to backdrop for this fabulous soiree attended by the who’s who of fashion and society peeps of Calgary. The gala night was also a fundraiser for the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation and United Way of Calgary and raised $180,000.

The store officially opens Friday September 19, 2014. We thought to share some of our fun selfies from the night taken with some of our great fashionable friends!

We know we will have to make several trips back to the store to get the complete experience and pick up a thing or two while we are there. 😉
