Grammy’s 2016 Best Dressed

Although last night’s Grammys were a bit of a miss for us, we did enjoy the red carpet (as always) and want to share our best dressed of the evening. Overall, there were several

casual looks, some business suit realness and the odd outrageous look (mostly too out there for us to mention). We are all about expressing personal style, but pyjama pants and Hello Kitty do not belong on the red carpet.
Here are top picks for Best Dressed:
Carrie Underwood (Photo: Larry Busacca)
Giving us sexy and elegant, this black gown is sheen-tastic. Carrie showed a little leg, which is super on-trend on the red carpet these days, and the rouging gives it just the right amount of texture. The makeup and hair were also flawless.

Now that’s how you make a statement on the red carpet! Wearing Pantone’s colour of the year, Rose Quartz, this gorgeous suit is fit really well and hits the fashion mark. We love it and paired with a simple white shirt, and no tie, is the way to do it as to not overwhelm the outfit.

Chrissy Teigen and John Legen (Photo: Lester Cohen)

This was the best dressed couple of the night! We love Chrissy in white, showing off her gorgeous baby bump and amazing sparkly cape. John is killing it with a printed Blazer and black bow tie. Simple, elegant and with the right amount of fashion.

Zendaya (Photo: Lester Cohen)

Face of Cover Girl, Zendaya is looking sharp in a black pant suit and short cropped hair. If there is anything we love it’s a fabulous woman in a pant suit and this double breasted number is so sophisticated and edgy at the same time. Perfection.

Kaley Cuoco (Photo: Steve Granitz)

Styled by fellow Canadian Brad Goreski, Kaley looks fabulous in a Naeem Khan jump suit. She is all about sparkle, giving us all kinds of sexy with the deep-V and cut-outs. We also love her tossled hair giving the look a rocker edge.

Breath, stretch, style with #Gapfit yoga

A huge thanks to our friends at the GAP for inviting us to a special Calgary blogger yoga morning session this week. We’re always on the lookout for new gym and yoga clothes that combine fashion and function and the GAP has done it.

We love the selection of colours, bold patters and – dare we say it – we are now embracing the men’s fitness tights trend that is taking over gyms by storm. Great for yoga, running or even just getting yourself to the gym in the cold, these men’s leggings are really comfortable and look great under a simple pair of black shorts.

Check out the online store for more and follow @CamLeeYoga on instagram and twitter.

Style Resolutions for 2016

Happy New Year!

Made any new year’s resolutions? Sure, we all have good intentions in January but they drop off fast and furious. We were asked, what are top three style resolutions that you can recommend? A great question! Here are a few we think you can incorporate easily, painlessly and maybe even stick to.

    1. Only wear what fits you. Purge your closet and take out those clothes that don’t fit well or aren’t flattering on you. If you’re not ready to part with them because your other resolution is lose 10 lbs, fine, but put them in a box and put them away. Looking at a closet full of unflattering clothes is a terrible way to start the day.
    2. Dress for yourself. Sure, we all have responsibilities and need to dress the part but don’t let anyone tell you not to wear something if you love it (ahem, except Crocs, yoga pants in public or cargo shorts). It’s your body, your day, and life is short!
    3. Try on one new thing. Afraid of prints? Always wanted a leather jacket? This is your year, just do it. Go get that one thing that you have always thought you should have but you’ve been holding yourself back from. You might be surprised by how you feel, who you meet and where 2016 takes you.

Whatever your goals, we wish you all a colourful and joyous year.

XO Jason & Aly

Kickin’ it back-to-school

A new pair of shoes is always a good thing! We both remember when we were growing up and new shoes was the only thing that made the entire situation of going back to school bearable!

Fortunately, there are no shortage of shoes available now for every kid’s style. You can go classic, modern, comfortable or even high fashion.

The classics – Jack Purcell Converse

Jack Purcell was actually a Canadian badminton player who won numerous titles in the 1920s and 30s. In 1935 helped design a new badminton shoe that became hot in street culture. Converse bought the rights to the shoe and has now re-launched the style with ultra-responsive cushioning and Nike Zoom air technology. That rim at the top (on the toe) is called the two-piece smile.

The modern – Ciroc X Sully Wong

Another Canadian success story, Sully Wong is made up of George Sully and Henry Wong. The team is based out of Toronto and largely inspired by their Canadian-Asian heritage and pays homages to the history of hip hop and the Apollo moon landing. Most recently, Sully Wong launched an all-white sneaker with Ciroc vodka, perfect for a day at a cabana.

The comfortable – ECCO

All about comfort but never compromising style. The founder wanted these to be comfortable from the moment you put them on, no need to wear them in. Based in Denmark, Sweden and Norway, ECCO uses 85% of their leather from their own tanneries. Check out the new ECCO store at Chinook Centre for all the hottest new looks, in particular the Soft 7 collection is available in stores now (a great collection of black and white shoes, backpacks and handbags).

The High Fashion – Thorocraft (or TCG)

Based in California, and known for top quality and modern style, we love these footwear because they are hand-crafted and produced in limited numbers. We first stumbled on these at the new Nordstrom and we love the patterns that are available.

Weddings and Grads – How to be Timeless

Whether you’re graduating or getting married, now is the time of year when women are shopping in full force. You know that your photo will be taken hundreds of times and no matter how hard you try, you will never outlive a bad, dated outfit. But how do you dress when you want to be stylish, but not so stylish that your dress will be out of style before you sober up?

Here are our picks for the classics. The very few looks that will have staying power.

The Woman in the Fitted Tuxedo

It’s not a look that every woman can or wants to pull off, but you see this silhouette coming back over and over. Madonna, Annie Lenox, Marlene Dietrich, they all rocked it, so can you.

The Halter Dress

Made famous by Halston in the 70s, this look has really never gone away. It’s sexy without being sleazy, elegant without trying to hard. Also, it moves with you so it’ll help you make the entrance that nobody will forget.

What could be simpler? For your money, this is the dress that you will wear over and over again, so buy the most flattering, best quality you can afford.

BOW TIES for every occasion

We love our bow ties and like to sport them for any occasion. Bow ties can amp up any outfit. Most men cringe when they hear the word bow tie or you hear “I am not wearing that!” Well, listen up, if you are hipster enough to rock a ‘stache or beard, you can most definitely rock a bow tie. There are so many different options available from patterned, solids, different materials such as wood, fabric, and even feathers. We are sure you will find the right one to suit any occasion not matter how dressy or casual.
Kat Marks
Kat Marks is a Calgary based designer that studied in London. Her passion is working with exotic leathers and is a leader in fashion enterprise and design. She is so creative and when it came time for to dress for hosting the red carpet, her unique NEW AMBROSIAN style of neckware was where Aly had to go! A new take on a bow and a bollo tie made with the most gorgeous materials such as silks and leathers. Kat Marks is a fashion force in this city and we cannot wait to see what she comes up with next!

Bo by Mansouri
You’ll be the talk about the party with these bow ties made with wood. Thats right, real wood. Started by a father and son duo, these fashion forward bow ties are made with cut offs from wood processing facilities across North America. In addition to this, they also use soft leather offcuts sourced in Israel, which are used for the neck straps. The bow tie goes through several protoype phases before becoming the almost weightless version that you could have in your hands. We both own one and can’t say enough about how amazing they are made in Canada!

Aristocrats Bows N Ties
Based in Toronto, these gorgeous bow ties are available through their online shop. From florals, stripes, solids, to vintage florals, you will find whatever tickles your bow tie fancy. They like to pride themselves in their fashion details and like to call it sophisticated and dapper, with a twist. All their bow ties come with an adjustable band making it suitable for any man. They also carry a broad range of accessories from lapel pins to pocket scarves that will have you looking put together and dapper with a click of a button.

Brackish Bow Ties
Started in 2007, all because the designer was not able to find the right groomsmen gift, Ben handcrafted his first bow ties from turkey feathers and they were an instant hit. Every tie is handcrafted in South Carolina and every single feather is hand selected ensuring that no 2 ties are alike. Every piece is a sustainable work of art and ensures that it will make a fabulous statement. We love the organic and of course colourful nature of the feathers and think these are the perfect tie for weddings, graduations, or any fashionable social function.

Spring Trends from Bella 2015

Arguably, it was the biggest fashion show to take place in Calgary’s history. There were two floors, dozens of models, hundreds of guests, and fashion valued at more than our house. In a word, stunning.

We were honoured to have been asked to host the Magenta Carpet last night and in a couple weeks you’ll be able see all the action on Shaw TV. Mr. Turk was kind enough to dress “The Style Guys” last night but all eyes were on the Spring fashions when the music started.

Here are a few of the trends that Holt Renfrew presented, all in the name of raising money (over $500,000!) for the Calgary Health Trust and the Neonatal Care Unit at the Foothills Hospital.

99.9 Virgin Radio Toronto: 2015 Spring Trends

We always love visiting Toronto and it’s always a pleasure to see Mad Dog and Maura at 99.9 Virgin Radio. This time the topic was Spring 2015 trends, and what we should be leaving behind from Spring 2014. Take listen to the full segment below!

YellowDress

She Wore Yellow

It’s not a colour that hangs in everyone’s closet but it should be. Yellow is going to be in popping up everywhere. Just remember, not all yellows are created equally, the trick is to find a shade that goes well with your skin tone.

CulottesCulottes

Not pants, not shorts, culottes. A proper fitting pair of culottes flows away from the body, kind of like a skirt would, and hits mid calf. They are a great look to dress up with a blazer and shows off a killer pair of shoes. Perfect for the office or a night out, but if worn too casually will look like you’re wearing capri pants.

GinghamGingham

Given that we’re Calgary guys, we see gingham every spring and summer, as people gear up for the Stampede. In fact, I’m pretty sure most retailers send all of their gingham to Calgary and mark it up in time for Stampede. Find a modern cut for this pattern so you avoid looking like you’re wrapped up in a picnic table cloth or heading out to a rockabilly show.

AllWhiteAll White

It’s Hampton’s chic, country-club brunch, polo party and yachting attire, and now it’s for the rest of us too. Probably not the best choice for a spaghetti dinner, or really, anything, but it’s fashion, so get your all white look on, don’t touch anything or anyone, don’t sit down or even leave your house. There aren’t enough Tide to Go sticks in Canada to get us in all-white, but if you’re brave, enjoy!

Wrangling some Wranglers

Growing up in a smaller community, I (Jason) went to school with some legit ranch kids. Let’s call them cowboys. I remember my first day moving to said community, I saw these classmates wearing full attired: cowboy boots, hats, and of course Wranglers. Now, these kids didn’t really understand or embrace a young budding style guy, so I always associated these jeans with getting pushed into a locker or called a variety of colourful names (you take a guess).

Fast forward 10 years later (okay, maybe a little longer) and a gift arrives in the mail from Wranglers (VFC Canada)…. a new pair of Wranglers. I proceed with caution, careful not mess up the wrapper in case I get the bum of a flat-arsed cowboy and need to re-gift them, and pull them out of the box. No retro stitching, stiff denim or boot cut on these Wranglers, so I put them on.

Aly and I both were really imWrangler RED 4pressed by the cut, fit and style of these newly launched Wrangler RED jeans. How could I have been so biased for so long? Available in three fits – vintage slim, vintage straight and vintage boot, we both tried the slim. The denim is soft, the fit very flattering and the price is great, coming it at around $30. Can’t beat that!

Check them out at Wrangler.ca/RED.
