It used to be that we would travel to shop. Unable to find our favourite designer brands in Calgary, we would forgo a lot of sightseeing, museums, festivals or workouts, instead carefully planning the shopping that needed to be done before returning home.
However, the city’s fashion offering has come a long way and now with the hotly anticipated opening of Saks Fifth Avenue at CF Chinook Centre, we can find all the fashion goodies we need to stay on-trend and maybe even, vacation-ready before we go.
It goes without saying that the brand is synonymous with luxury, and this third Canadian location has over 115,000 square feet of decadence, including men’s and womenswear. The focus at this location is on outerwear, shoes, and accessories, but the offering is extensive and there’s little chance you’ll want to leave empty-handed. We certainly did not.
But let’s talk about the menswear experience, an area where many retailers fall flat. Here are the three areas where we spent most of our time on our first visit and what we will certainly be heading back for.
- The accessories. Brands include Bally, Tumi, and our favourite: John Hardy (this gets extra attention as we wear John Hardy wedding rings). While he’s not normally a hat-wearer, Aly couldn’t resist scooping up a very Don Draper – esque chapeau.
- Men’s shoes. You can never have enough of them, and this is often where we START putting together an outfit for the day. Brands include Ferragamo, Giuseppe Zanotti, and Valentino. The current collection has us lusting over their luxurious sneakers and high style loafers.
- Ready-to-Wear. Saks Fifth Avenue knows how to dress us for winter, bringing in a broad selection of go-to brands like Canada Goose and Moose Knuckle, but we spent much of our time in the denim department, ultimately leaving with a pair of ‘not quite ready to wear in Calgary’ white Rag & Bone jeans.
In addition to the fabulous selection, we were also thrilled to find out that Saks Fifth Avenue is a long-term partner of RBC. Clients receive 2X Rewards points on all in-store purchases when they pay with their RBC Rewards credit card. What we love about this is that points can be redeemed for, well, more fashion! You can find out more about the program and learn about their mobile app here.
Happy shopping!
