How are you sleeping these days? We know that for many of you the answer is NOT GREAT – so we’re to help. Your bedroom is where you should feel your most relaxed and where you can put the day’s stress behind you. Here are our tips on how you can make your bedroom the perfect place to rest and re-charge – and look amazing.
1: Choose a soothing wall colour

First, let’s talk paint colour. We chose a gorgeous blue for all four walls of our bedroom, including on the feature ‘slatted’ wall details. The key to choosing a new paint colour is to find one that you love but also one that is neutral enough to pair with all kinds of bedroom décor and accessories. We love the Blue Moose Khaki Recycled Paint from Giant Tiger (available at most stores in Canada), and at $8 a quart you can paint and change up your décor without breaking the bank.
2: Bedding essentials
There’s nothing better than getting into a bed with new sheets on it. A mattress pad, pillows and a sheet set from the REST collection, exclusive to Giant Tiger, will not only improve your sleep experience but give your bedroom that boutique hotel feeling. Moisture wicking and anti-microbial, your bedding will stay fresh longer. They’ve got new colours and patterns all the time, so check in store regularly. Plus, watch for their new, extra soft, aloe-infused sheet sets.

3: Create warmth by layering
We love to have photos and mementos from our travels in our bedroom to bring us to our happy places before bed. We also find that adding toss cushions and throw blankets are a great way to play with colour and pattern in the room. On our last trip to Giant Tiger had found super soft, plush VELLUX BLANKET for just $20 – perfect for the chilly winter months – how could we pass that up?

4: Clear the air
By this we don’t mean airing all of your dirty laundry to your partner before bed (although, some might say this helps). What we mean is literally clearing the air of allergens that can cause a bad night’s sleep. Consider an air purifier or diffuser with your favourite essential oils (note: lavender is especially good at promoting rest and relaxation). You might also bring in your favourite scented candle, and of course adding plants to your space will naturally purify the air (and look delightful!).

5: Wind-down routine
Lastly, create your own turn down service by closing the curtains, dimming the lights and playing soothing music to get the room ready for rest. Then, enjoy your perfectly made bed by reading or meditating so you’re in the right headspace to sleep. We also TRY to stay off our phones one hour before bed to ensure our minds are calm and disconnected from work and social media.

We hope these tips help you get the rest you need to wake up feeling refreshed and ready for a new day. Sweet dreams!
